giving me life!!!
giving me life!!!
I have literally never once encountered a person who hoarded guns, angrily defended gun rights, bragged about guns “protecting our freedom,” and wasn’t a racist white person.
I’m sure exceptions exist, yeah, but all the doomsday prepper NRA fanatics I’ve met are people who would be fighting on the side of Ferguson’s police. Angry, racially diverse civilians are what they’re actually afraid of. Gay marriage and a brown president are what they really mean when they claim to be against “government corruption.”
“We must look at how violence in any form against women is addressed by government and
tacitly condoned by a culture. I don’t care if rape and violence have always been around and, as
a result, have faded into the background as an issue.
That’s exactly why I’m writing this column. Violence against women needs to be front and
center. And yes, I understand that we aren’t in the position to recall men or file class action
lawsuits against them, but this column is about the effort that is put into mitigating these
consumer crises and how little we do to mitigate violence against women.
You may also say, “There are plenty of men out there who don’t abuse or sexually assault
women—what about them?” I say: Well, what about them?
Why should we praise people for not doing things they shouldn’t be doing anyway? We don’t
say, “Oh, he’s terrific because he doesn’t rob people.” I’m glad there are men out there who don’t
abuse and rape, but we shouldn’t be handing out “Thank You for Not Raping!” awards as though
men have achieved special status for doing what’s appropriate and right.”
Studio Ghibli | 1985 - 2014
After recent rumors of Studio Ghibli closing their animation department and the low box office numbers for When Marnie Was There, it was time to make an appreciation post for a company that has created true movie magic again and again. So, thank you, Studio Ghibli. Hopefully it isn’t good-bye just yet.Studio Ghibli is no longer producing animated films. So here’s to you, Ghibli, and everything you’ve given us.
There seems to be some confusion about a couple of things that I’d like to clarify.
When pro-Israelis say that Israel “provides” Gaza and the West Bank with water and electricity, it’s in the same way that your local store “provides” you with groceries. They sell them electricity and water.
It’s also worth mentioning that the majority of the water provided to Palestinians comes from water aquifers in the West Bank. i.e. they forbid us from drilling for water and sell us water extracted from Palestinian lands.
If you listen only to pro-Israelis, you’d think that Israel provides everything to Palestinians for free.
Israel does no such thing, despite the fact that as an occupier it has responsibilities towards the occupied population, but even the administrative occupational costs are taken directly from Palestinian tax returns that Israel collects as per the Paris accord of the Oslo agreement.
We fund our own occupation.
There is hope (:
